Colour a vessel deck by grade and place IMO safety signage, then export a combined fire-control and safety plan PDF.

The Deck Plan engine turns a drawing of a vessel deck into an advisory fire-control and safety plan - colour each space by grade and place internationally recognised IMO signage. See the feature overview for what it can do; this is the how-to.

Add the engine

Open your drawing of a deck and add the Deck Plan engine. There’s no region to set. Maritime safety signage is harmonised internationally under SOLAS and IMO, so the engine carries a single international standard for everyone - ISO 7010 · IMO Res. A.1116(30) · ISO 17631 / ISO 24409 - and the safety colours and printed wording are the same wherever you are.

Colour decks by grade

Real deck plans colour-code each space by coating grade, space type or hazard zone. You define those grades yourself, then paint them onto the plan.

Open the Grades panel from the tool rail. Add a grade and it takes the next code (A, B, C…) automatically, with a name and a fill colour you can change. Add as many as the plan needs.
Tap a grade to arm it, then pick the Paint tool and tap rooms to assign them. Each painted space fills with the grade colour and shows its grade code in a badge at its centre. A space belongs to at most one grade.
Use Erase to clear a space back to ungraded.

Expand a grade’s row to rename it, recolour it or delete it; deleting a grade clears the spaces assigned to it. The legend in the panel keys every code, name and colour you’ve defined, so the colour scheme always reads at a glance. Spaces you never paint stay unfilled.

Place IMO signage

The signage catalogue holds 73 ready-made symbols - the marks that belong on a combined fire-control and safety plan (in-house recreations based on ISO 7010, not the official IMO/ISO files):

Life-saving appliances - lifeboats, liferafts, rescue boat, lifebuoys and their variants, lifejackets (adult, child and infant), EEBD, immersion suit, SART, EPIRB, VHF, line-throwing appliance, distress flares, evacuation slide and chute, and the embarkation ladder.
Fire-control equipment - extinguishers, fixed installations, detection and emergency phones.
Escape - fire exit, direction arrows and a ‘You are here’ marker.
Muster and assembly stations, plus AED and first aid.

To place a sign:

Choose a category from the rail. Or use the search field above the symbol grid - searching looks across every category by name or code, so you don’t need to know which section a sign lives in, and each result is captioned with its category.
Tap the plan to drop the symbol, then pick the exact glyph from the grid that appears.
Select a placed sign to edit it - rotate, scale and recolour it. Signs draw at their real-world size, so they scale with the plan as you zoom, exactly like the walls.

Lifeboat, liferaft, lifejacket and other vessel signage all live here. If you’re marking up a building rather than a vessel, the Fire Escape engine carries the building escape and evacuation set instead.

Fade the base plan

The engine settings open with a Canvas → Plan opacity slider. Drag it down to fade the static floor plan in the editor so your grade fills and safety signage stand out; it starts at 90%. It only changes how the plan looks while you work - the drawing itself and the exported plan are unchanged - and the choice is shared across every overlay engine and remembered between sessions.

Show or hide plan layers

The Layers button (next to the gear) toggles what the base plan shows - Measurements, Doors, Windows, Room names and Furniture. These per-drawing choices print exactly as you see them, and hiding doors still leaves each doorway’s gap in the wall.

Export

From the ⋯ menu, export a single-page combined fire-control and safety plan PDF. The page carries the base plan with your grade fills under the linework, every placed sign, and a grade-code badge in each painted space. Around it you get a deck-grade legend (with a note that ungraded areas are left unfilled), an IMO symbol key of just the signs you used, a north point and a scale bar, and a standards and compliance footer. It’s the sheet you print and post.
